The University of Oklahoma earned its best showing ever in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup by finishing seventh for the 2012-13 academic year with a score of 1,078.25 points. The mark surpasses the previous record of a 10th-place finish in the 2010-11 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup. The Sooners have now placed in the top 15 for four consecutive years.

The Directors' Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Learfield Sports and USA Today to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country.

Stanford captured a first-place finish with a score of 1261.25, marking the 20th consecutive year that the Cardinal has ranked atop the standings. Florida (1244.75) and UCLA (1227.25) came in second and third, respectively.

Oklahoma's was the top-ranked institution within the Big 12 Conference, coming in ahead of No. 13 Texas (966.75).

The Sooners made a strong push through the spring season with all 10 teams competing in the postseason and totaling 511.75 points, the fifth-highest total in the country. OU sat eighth in the most recent standings, but a Super Regional appearance by the baseball team earned the school 64 points to move up one spot.

Nineteen of Oklahoma's 21 teams advanced to postseason competition during the 2012-13 school year. Softball won the Women's College World Series championship, while both men's and women's gymnastics compiled NCAA runner-up finishes, bolstering the Sooners' final point total. In total, OU boasted top 10 finishes in seven sports, also including men's cross-country (eighth), women's basketball (ninth), baseball (ninth), men's tennis (ninth) and women's golf (ninth).
