The U.S. Supreme Court issued five opinions Monday, leaving six opinions still to come including the case of a custody battle for a 3-year-old Oklahoma girl
Veronica's case concerns the federal Indian Child Welfare Act.
Veronica's mother, Christina Maldonado, put her up for adoption when soon after Veronica was born. She was placed with a family in South Carolina named Matt and Melanie Capobianco.
Veronica's father, Dusten Brown, learned of the adoption and challenged it in South Carolina courts.
A South Carolina family court ruled in Brown's favor and the state's Supreme Court agreed.

In December 2011, Veronica was returned to Brown who still lives in Oklahoma.

The Capobianco's appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court in October 2012 to review the case.

In January 2013, the court granted certiorari and on April 16, 2013, the high court heard oral arguments in the case, called Adoptive Couple v. Baby Girl.
