A northwest Oklahoma City man is in jail, accused of killing his own mother.

Police arrested 38-year-old Fredric Hardeman Jr. shortly after 1 a.m. Monday at the townhome he shared with his mother, 60-year-old Osie Hardeman, near N.W. 36th Street and Meridian Avenue.

The neighbors say they are shocked and saddened by what happened at the Autumn Ridge Townhomes. They say they knew the son had been in trouble with the law, even been arrested recently for beating up his mother. But they never expected this.

Only a small piece of police tape remains, to remind you of the horror that must have taken place inside the townhome, where police arrested Hardeman, after finding his mother dead inside.

"It was pretty horrific," said Amy Cossey, who just moved in a month ago. " I mean I just met her Friday evening, and they were both outside, she was gardening and she was just a sweet lady."

She still can't believe the man she met is now in jail accused of killing his sweet mom.

"He honestly was just sitting on the curb, he didn't make eye contact," said Cossey. "She just kind of introduced him, I mean I would have never thought that anything like this would happen."

Hardeman's car is still parked out front. Making it hard for her neighbors to come to grips with what happened.

Neighbors say Hardeman loved to take care of her flowers out on her front porch. And even helped save her next door neighbor's life by calling 911 when he started to hemorrhage. That neighbor was too distraught to talk on camera.

Now, Amy is left wondering what could have been done to help the young son, and if it could have prevented what happened.

"I have heard that he isn't all there," said Cossey. "I know he's asked a few other people, he'll just knock on the door and ask for drugs."

We checked and Frederic Hardeman Jr. has been in jail for a string of charges including domestic abuse, drug abuse and assault and battery.

He is being held without bond and will have an arraignment later this week. Police are not releasing how Hardeman was killed, but one neighbor tells us she was stabbed to death.
