An 18-year-old girl drowned while swimming with her siblings on Fort Cobb Lake in Caddo County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Her body was recovered Thursday afternoon.

Tessa Christian was swimming against the waves with her family at 2 p.m. Wednesday just south of Goose Island, troopers say. She went down in the choppy water and never resurfaced.

The OHP looked for her body but had to stop the recovery effort due to severe weather. She was later found by the OHP dive team in 26 feet of water, according to a news release.

Christian, a Lafayette, Indiana resident, was pronounced dead by the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office. Caddo County Sheriff's Department and Fort Cobb Parks Department assisted OHP with the recovery effort.
