Tulsa police were on their way to another call when they came upon a wreck they say was caused by driving under the influence. Officers heard screeching tires and saw a blue and gray Chevy Suburban moving erratically on 49th Street just after midnight Sunday.

The driver sped towards Memorial, losing control of the SUV which struck a curb.

"It landed on its side then went back up on all fours," said Corporal Andrew Mackenzie with the Tulsa Police Department. The man then drove over another curb and grass embankment into the Fontana shopping center parking lot.

Mackenzie said the man didn't pull over for police right away but was unable to go much further because of a blown tire.

The driver sustained a cut to his head in the wreck.

"He was able to crawl out of the window of the car and crawl back to us, so it didn't appear that any bones were broken," Mackenzie said.

Police were planning to take the man to the hospital to be checked out then take him to jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.
