Every couple hours we're hearing stories of survival, some of the most touching coming from two elementary schools.

Teachers at Briarwood rode out the storm in the hallways, bathrooms, and closets, and had not seen the destruction since pulling children out of the rubble.

News 9's Lisa Monahan went with the teachers on Thursday for their first look.

For Tammy Glasgow, the tornado took more than her classroom. Sixteen years of her hard work was destroyed in a matter of minutes, when the tornado ripped through Briarwood Elementary

The only things left untouched in her second grade class were the students she protected.

"I put them each in the bathrooms and told them I loved them," Glasgow said.

Now rummaging through that same debris gives Ms. Glasgow a bit of hope. She recovered a gold medal, nothing more appropriate for a teacher turned hero.
