Yes it is late April, but Monday's cold front brought in January-like temperatures to the Sooner State.

Early Tuesday morning, some areas in northwest Oklahoma received freezing rain and sleet with afternoon temperatures approximately 40 degrees below average.

Oklahoma counties under a freeze warning.

As cloud cover clears out overnight, temperatures are expected to plummet across the state into the upper 20s and lower 30s. Temperatures this cold would break numerous record lows for late April. Also, the coldest late spring temperature in OKC is 30° on April 18, 1953.

If we manage to drop to upper 20s in OKC Wednesday morning, that would be the coldest temperature on record this late in the season. Keep in mind these frigid temperatures are all dependent on mostly clear skies overnight. If clouds manage to hang around a little longer, conditions wouldn't be quite so cold.

However, current data indicates mostly skies just after midnight tonight.
