A Putnam City North High School student was arrested Wednesday morning, after the school district says he brought a cache of weapons to school.

Another student and her mother tipped off administrators after the girl saw the 10th grader holding a handgun.

When administrators opened his backpack, they say they found a handgun, bullets, two ceremonial swords, a knife and fireworks.

They say he was also storing lantern oil, a sock soaked in lantern oil, a fuse and more fireworks under a drainage grate on the school's north side.

Alyssa Sharp says the boy sits next to her in one of her morning classes.

"He's always been bullied, by the way he looks, by the way his hair is. I feel sorry for him," she said.

A district spokesman says he doesn't believe the troubled teen was planning any sort of attack.
