The Northwestern Oklahoma State softball team split a pair of non conference games at Missouri Southern State University Monday afternoon. The Rangers used late-inning heroics to take game one 1-0, before falling 5-3 in the night cap.

Alyssa Taylor's solo home run in the top of the seventh inning proved to be the difference. However, pitching and defense was the story of the series opener.

Allora Miller (4-4) was superb on the mound for the Rangers. The junior scattered three hits through seven innings to earn the complete-game shutout.

Monica Jaramillo batted 2 for 3, Ali Seibel finished 3 for 4 and Taylor was 1 for 3 for Northwestern.

The Lions (14-10) were able to find their offense in the second game scoring five runs on eight hits. Alana Hester went 3 for 4 with two RBI's including the game-winner to give the Lions a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Kellie Mason (4-3) was tagged with the loss. The junior tossed a complete-game eight-hitter. Mason allowed five runs and two walks, while striking out two.

Taylor and Seibel finished 1 for 3.

Northwestern (10-8, 8-4 Great American Conference) returns to action at Pittsburg State University Tuesday afternoon.
