Marcus Smart, a freshman on the 17th-ranked Oklahoma State men's basketball team, has been named a second-team All-American by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, it was announced this afternoon. He is just the sixth Cowboy to be named an All-American by the USBWA.

Smart, from Flower Mound, Texas, was joined on the second team by Kansas' Ben McLemore and Jeff Withey, Mason Plumlee of Duke and Indiana's Cody Zeller. The first team consisted of Michigan's Trey Burke, Doug McDermott of Creighton, Indiana's Victor Oladipo, Kelly Olynyk of Gonzaga and Georgtown's Otto Porter.

The other OSU players who have been honored by the USBWA are James Anderson (second team in 2010), John Lucas (second team in 2004), Tony Allen (third team in 2004), Bryant Reeves (honorable mention in 1994) and Byron Houston (second team in 1992).

Smart and his teammates travel to San Jose, Calif., this week to face No. 25 Oregon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cowboys and Ducks will play Thursday, March 21, at approximately 3:40 p.m. CT at the HP Pavilion. The game will be televised on TNT.
