The three Oklahoma schools went a perfect 5-0 in Saturday's softball action across the state. Here is a full recap:

OKLAHOMA SOONERS

FULLERTON, Calif. – Top-ranked Oklahoma faced another ranked foe Saturday in the Judi Garman Classic, and like eight opponents before them, the No. 14 Arizona Wildcats went down, falling to the Sooners 4-0.

Lauren Chamberlain hit two home runs, her 11th career multi-HR game, to lead the OU offense, while, Keilani Ricketts struck out 7 as she threw her 10th shutout of the season, improving to 12-0 this year.

At one point, Ricketts and the Sooners retired 19 consecutive Arizona batters.

Oklahoma is now 9-1 against top-25 teams this season, outscoring them 61-4 in the process. The wins (9) and winning percentage (.900) are both tops in the nation against ranked teams.

The Sooners have won eight straight games since suffering their only loss of the season on March 2 to No. 25 Nebraska.

Oklahoma wraps up their time in California with games against Penn State at 11:00 a.m. and Cal State Fullerton at 1:30 p.m.

 

OKLAHOMA STATE COWGIRLS

CLEARWATER, Fla. –Oklahoma State continued its strong showing at the USF Spring Invitational Saturday by defeating Boston University 7-1 and capitalized on Simone Freeman's 15 strikeouts to beat Robert Morris 3-0. The Cowgirls improved to 18-12 on the season and extend their winning streak to 11 games.

In the first game on the day, the Cowgirl's came out swinging. OSU got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Samantha Chrisman hit a two-run double to centerfield scoring junior Shannon Kaufman and junior Tarah Ettinger. Later in the inning, senior Amy Graham doubled to centerfield, scoring Chrisman and freshman Tiffany Mikkelson to give the Cowgirls a 4-0 lead.

The Cowgirls added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Chrisman belted a three-run home run to left center to give OSU a 7-0 after two innings. The Terriers scored once in the sixth.

Senior starter Kat Espinosa (10-6) went five innings and didn't give up a run and only allowed two hits.

The Cowgirls racked up nine hits in the game. Chrisman was 2-for-2 with a double, a home run and five RBIs.

Game two proved to be a pitching duel and the game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when freshman Erika Campbell had a pinch hit single, scoring Shianne Hughes from second base. Later in the innings, sophomore Taylor Woodall hit a two-run home run to left field, giving the Cowgirls the 3-0 win.

Brown, Chrisman, and Shelby Davis also had hits for the Cowgirls.

Freeman (8-6) was almost untouchable in the circle. She did not give up a run on five hits and struck out 15 of the batters that she faced.

The Cowgirls concluded the tournament tomorrow against LIU Brooklyn at 8:30 a.m. CT.

 

TULSA GOLDEN HURRICANE

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Lacey Middlebrooks pitched a no-hitter to lead the Tulsa softball team to an 8-0 game-two win at Memphis, as the Golden Hurricane swept Saturday's doubleheader with a 4-2 (8 inn.) game-one win at Tigers Softball Complex.

It was the first career no-hitter for Middlebrooks (8-2). Third baseman Jill Barrett and shortstop Samantha Cobb each drove in two runs for the Golden Hurricane (22-5, 5-0 C-USA). Center fielder Caitlin Everett went 5-for-5 at the plate, tying the school record for hits in a single game.

In the midst of her 5-for-5 game, Everett became Tulsa's all-time leading hitter. She now has 251 career hits, breaking the previous record of 46 by Lauren Lindsay (2007-10). With her two RBI in Game 2, Cobb became Tulsa's all-time leading run producer. She now has 166 RBI, breaking Lindsay's former record of 164 RBI.

In Game 1, the teams needed eight innings to score any runs. In the top of the eighth, the Golden Hurricane broke a scoreless tie with four runs. First baseman Julie Kernen hit a two-run single to provide the final two runs. Right fielder Cierra Hughes scored on a fielder's choice and catcher Cassidy Bowen came home on an error.

Tulsa picked up its runs much earlier in Game 2, scoring three in the top of the first. The Hurricane then added a pair of runs in the second inning, one more in the sixth, and two more scores in the top of the seventh.

The only baserunners allowed by Middlebrooks were on three walks and an error.

The Golden Hurricane and Tigers conclude the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
