Thunder To Play In 2013-14 NBA Global Games

The Oklahoma City Thunder will travel to Turkey and England this fall to play in the NBA Global Games.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will travel to Turkey and England this fall to play in the NBA Global Games. Eight teams in six countries are participating in the event.

The Thunder starts the global games schedule on Oct. 5 in Istanbul, Turkey with a game against five-time Turkish champion Fenerbahce Ulker at the Ulker Sports Arena. On Oct. 8, the Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers will compete in the first ever NBA game played in Manchester at the Manchester Arena.

In addition to on court action, the NBA global games will feature a variety of events off the court, including NBA Cares community outreach activities and interactive fan events in each city. They will also be supported by a variety of marketing and promotional partners, and will be available to fans on television and through digital media.

Joining the Thunder and 76ers in the 2013-14 global games are the Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers who will play a pair of games in the Philippines and Taiwan, the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards which travel to Brazil and the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers who play two games in China.

The NBA has played games internationally for more than three decades and was the first American professional sports league to stage regular-season games outside of North America with two games in Tokyo in 1990. In January, the league staged its third regular-season game in London featuring a sold-out game between the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks, which marked the NBA's fastest sell out at The O2.To date, the NBA has staged 138 preseason and regular-season games in 18 countries and territories across Europe, the Americas and Asia since 1978.
