Residents in a northeast Oklahoma City neighborhood called 911 after hearing a woman scream and seeing a man attack her with a 2x4 in the street.

Police arrived in the 1600 block of N.E. 34th Street just after 5:30 p.m. on March 1. They found a 39-year-old woman lying in the street. Officers said she was semi-conscious and suffering from unknown injuries.

Police saw 33-year-old Jerry Watson sitting on the front porch of nearby house. They said Watson had a laceration on his upper lip and appeared to be intoxicated.

When police questioned him, Watson said he and his girlfriend fought after she discovered he'd been at another woman's house. Watson said the fight became physical and the victim hit him with a table.

Police then spoke to neighbors who said they were in their homes when they heard screaming. At least two witnesses said they saw Watson chase the woman into the street. They said he caught up to her and began punching and kicking her. They said when the victim fell to the ground, Watson retrieved a 2x4 piece of wood and began beating her. Neighbors called 911.

Police arrested Watson and booked him into the Oklahoma County jail for domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
