Top-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling delivered a destructive 33-3 performance over No. 8 Illinois in the NWCA National Duals quarterfinals on Friday at the University of Minnesota's Williams Center.

"I liked the 33 points," coach John Smith said. "I liked the bonus points. Overall, it was a good effort, but there are areas that we need to continue to build on. Each individual needs to see that so we can continue to separate ourselves from our competition. Tomorrow will be tougher, but it was a good start for us today."

The Cowboys won nine of the ten bouts, collecting 18 bonus points. The lone loss for the Cowboys came at 125 pounds, where No. 3 Jesse Delgado defeated OSU's Eddie Klimara, 4-3.

Cowboy Jon Morrison got the momentum going for the team, putting the first points on the board in the form of a 12-1 major decision over No. 13 Daryl Thomas. Julian Feikert followed up with a 4-2 win over Steven Rodrigues.

Consecutive bonus points came at 149 and 157 pounds. A dominant Jordan Oliver pinned 19th-ranked Caleb Ervin in less than a minute, and Alex Dieringer showed off against Matt Nora with 14-5 major decision, respectively.

The bouts from 165-197 started off slow as each had scoreless first periods, but the Cowboys did not disappoint.

Tyler Caldwell earned an escape in the second period and rode out No. 8 Conrad Polz for the entire third period to win, 2-0. In a very similar bout at 174 pounds, Chris Perry also earned two points from an escape and riding time advantage to defeat No. 8 Jordan Blanton, 2-1.

Chris Chionuma prevailed over 18th-ranked Tony Dallago, 7-5, after an action packed third period.

At 197 pounds, Blake Rosholt took his opponent, No. 14 Mario Gonzalez, to overtime. Rosholt and Gonzalez finished regulation tied at 2-2. With no action in sudden victory, it came down to a tiebreaker, where Rosholt's reversal and nearfall gave him a 6-3 victory.

"It wasn't one of my better performances," Rosholt said. "Like Coach Smith says, it's better to have an ugly win than an ugly loss. I'm glad to get the win over a guy who gives a lot of people fits. I had a tough time with him last year. It's a process and it's coming together."

Alan Gelogaev finished the dual with bonus-point style, picking up six takedowns to defeat Christopher Lopez in a 17-5 major decision.

The Cowboys will be back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. to take on No. 6 Missouri in the National Duals semifinals.
