The St. Gregory's University baseball team was plagued by miscues in the field and on the mound Tuesday in a 15-2 loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan at Bill Nicklas Field. The Cavs committed six errors and issued 11 walks in losing for the third time in four games.

Freshman Chris Sutton (0-1) took the loss, giving up seven runs – four earned – on five hits and four walks in five innings pitched. His counterpart, Chad Backward, gave up one run on three hits in seven innings. He struck out six Cavs to pick up his second win of the season.

The game was close early on. The Eagles got two runs in the second on an RBI single and an RBI double. SGU cut it to 2-1 on Matt Blackwell's run-scoring double in the third.

It was 3-1 OKWU through five, but that's when the wheels began to fall off for the Cavs. The visitors scored six runs on only two hits in the top of the sixth. SGU committed two errors in the frame and Cavalier pitchers walked two and hit three batters.

The Eagles led 10-1 before adding five more runs on only two hits in the eighth. This time, most of the damage was courtesy of four SGU walks, one hit batsman and one error. Blackwell got one back in the bottom of the inning on his second RBI double of the game.

SGU (5-7) travels to Edmond to take on Oklahoma Christian Thursday. That game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
