Evangels Climb To No. 23 In Latest NAIA Coaches' Poll

One week after making their rankings debut, the Mid-America Christian University Evangels have crept up to the 23rd spot in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' poll.

One week after making their rankings debut, the Mid-America Christian University Evangels have crept up to the 23rd spot in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' poll, the organization released Monday for the week of Feb. 12. The Evangels are tied for No. 23 in the rankings with Culver-Stockton (Mo.).

The Evangels have won seven of their last 10 games, including three victories over top 25 squads, with the last being a 76-72 win over then No. 20-ranked Rogers State University last Thursday (Feb. 7).

MACU (13-8, 8-4 SAC) is currently in a tie for second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference with No. 10-ranked Oklahoma Baptist University, whom the Evangels are prepping for a showdown with on Thursday night (Feb. 14) at 8 p.m.

The Evangels' are all over the SAC statistical rankings, as Charlie Shorter leads the conference in scoring (21.2 ppg) and steals (2.2 spg), while Angelo Lewis ranks fifth in the league scoring at 15.1 ppg and is tops in the league in rebounding (8.0 rpg), field-goal percentage (.566) and is second in steals (2.1 spg). Lewis is also second in the conference in rebounding (7.4 rpg). Camilo Valencia is fifth in the conference in assists per game (4.1 apg).
