Your 2 Cents: Teachers Armed At School

A bill in the state House would allow trained teachers to be armed at school if the local school board says it's ok. I think it should be decided at the local level.

A bill in the state House would allow trained teachers to be armed at school if the local school board says it's ok. I think it should be decided at the local level.

Here's what you had to say...

Ron from Purcell first: "You have hit the nail on the head.. Each school should make it's own decision whether to protect our kids or not."

Tiffany from Shawnee: "I am surprised that the "man" comment came out of your mouth, Kelly! I'm sorry, but no gunman is going to walk into a school and say "Oh, there are men here, I better not try to shoot people."

Not what I said.. I said our elementary schools are especially soft targets because there are fewer men to help if a violent intruder comes in, and I stand by that.

Timothy in Spencer: "I'm all for properly trained teachers and/or staff that wish to carry protection for themselves and the children.."

But Elisha says: "I will NEVER put my child in a school where teachers have guns. What if a teacher has a bad day and turns while they are armed."

Rita in Dill City: "I have taught in Oklahoma schools for over 20 years. The day I have to have a gun in my hands to teach will be my last day."

Finally, Shelly from Enid writes: "..one thing that can stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun...such violence is less likely to happen if the lunatic knows the faculty is packin some serious heat!"
