A Tulsa man was arrested for domestic assault and battery after police say he beat and strangled his girlfriend Thursday, January 31. Officers say Damien Dinchie Wardell, 38, went into a rage during an argument at a residence in the 8000 block of East Newton Court.

At about 4 a.m., Wardell slammed the woman to the ground and strangled her until she became unconscious, a news release states. Police say the assault continued, getting progressively more violent.

Tulsa police surrounded the house after the victim called them to the scene at about 3 a.m. They eventually convinced Wardell to surrender and leave the residence. There was no word on the victim's condition.

Wardell was convicted of drug possession and armed robbery in 1996. He also has a 2010 conviction for assault and battery in the presence of a minor child.
