Since the massacre at Newtown Connecticut, several of you have emailed me with ideas about how to prevent such a thing from happening again.

Most have focused on keeping intruders out of the schools.

Folks, short of steel bars and razor wire, it's going to be next to impossible, and we don't want our kids' schools looking like prisons.

So then, how do you deal with an intruder if he gets inside?

You could have a police officer or armed guard there, but it's a big school for one person to try to protect.

What if you had a small team of armed protectors in the school?

Apparently there will be at least one bill introduced in the next legislative session that will allow Oklahoma teachers with concealed carry permits who've been trained to bring their guns into Oklahoma schools.

A small Texas district does it has since 2007 without incident.

Now an Austin Texas gun store owner is offering school teachers a discount on guns.

I don't cherish the thought of any weapons in schools, but folks we have to face the reality that if an armed intruder gets into a school he's going to kill people, probably many before police can get there.

We know from the heroism of the murdered teachers in Connecticut that they will protect their students with their lives; maybe it's time to give them the ability to fight back.
