Oklahoma State thrower J.P. Hendrick is transferring to play football at Oklahoma Baptist. He will begin classes in this spring.

Hendrick, who will be a lineman for the Bison, was a 6A All-Star, All-Conference and All-District at Southmoore High School, where he played football under current OBU coaches, including head coach Chris Jensen.

Hendrick was State runner-up in the shot put at Southmoore and was a member of the 2010 State Championship team. At SHS, he also was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated in the top 10 percent of his class.

He has a personal best of 59-08 in the shot put and placed fifth in the John Jacobs Invitational and the KSU Invitational.

The son of Jim and Janet Hendrick, J.P. will be a sophomore majoring in finance.

He said he is coming to OBU because "I love the coaches and the campus."
