Google announced it has awarded three community grants totaling more than $122,000 to Pryor Public Schools, the Thunderbird Youth Academy and Safenet Services to fund computer labs.

Google, which operates a data center in Mayes County, says the grants will benefit both students and adults.

In its announcement Tuesday, Google said it gave Pryor Schools a $62,500 grant to purchase three laptop labs at the elementary level and a robotics program at the secondary level.

The Thunderbird Youth Academy will get a $50,000 grant for computers, software and equipment that will expand access to the internet at the Pryor school.

"Providing this grant will improve the lives of at-risk youth who have made the effort to overcome their environments and make a change in their lives," Dylan Bird, director of Thunderbird Youth Academy Foundation, said. "It will allow Thunderbird Youth Academy to provide our communities with young men and women who are disciplined, determined and equipped with skills to succeed."

And Safenet Services, a domestic violence/sexual assault agency in Rogers and Mayes Counties, was given a $10,000 grant to fund a computer lab for computer skills training in Claremore and Pryor.

"Taking the steps to educate clients and equip them with computer skills and financial knowledge and planning will help them secure a better future for themselves and their families," Executive Director of Safenet Services Donna Grabow said.
