A McAlester man is in the Pittsburg County jail charged with repeatedly raping a woman over a seven-month period.

McAlester Police arrested Paul Savala, 45, Friday. He is charged with first degree burglary, first degree rape, forcible sodomy and transmitting a threat.

According to court records, Savala broke into the woman's home and sexually assaulted her on each occasion. The victim told police that the attacks occurred more than 20 times between May and October.

Savala tied the woman's hands and blindfolded her each time, according to police. He also threatened to hurt the woman's daughter and grandchildren if she went to police.

In late November, the victim told a friend who told a relative, who then convinced the victim to go to McAlester Police.

At the time of his arrest, police found a substance in Savala's pocket which police believed to be methamphetamine.

The Pittsburg County DA's office also charged Savala with possession of a controlled and dangerous substance.

Bond for Savala was set at $200,000.
