Friend Remembers OKC's Latest Homicide Victim

Oklahoma City police found a nurse dead inside her home near S.W. 104th and Penn. on Saturday, December 8.

Police say they are now investigating the city's 94th murder of the year. Investigators are not saying much about how 57-year-old Shelia Stanley died, but we do know how she lived.

Patricia Mason has been a friend and co-worker of Stanley's for eight years. The two worked together at Providence Home Health.

"She was a very good person," Mason said.

As the tears flow, Mason described the grief she and others are sharing,

"Such a tragic thing, Shelia was one of the rocks around here [Providence Home Care] that held our family strong and we all loved her," Mason said.

Shelia Stanley made a lot of friends in her lifetime as a nurse, as a co-worker, and as a neighbor living in her home at 10226 Oxlow Court in Oklahoma City. The same house police say her two close friends stopped by on Saturday afternoon, worried about Stanley.

"The friends had not seen her for some time," Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Jennifer Wardlow said.

Wardlow shared details from the police report.

"The friends told police they found Sheila Stanley's car in the driveway and the front door wide open but when they called out for their friend no one replied," she said.

That's when the friends called police. Sgt. Wardlow, who says when they went inside the home, they found the victim with trauma to her body consistent with homicide,

"We do believe it to be a homicide and we are investigating it as such right now. We do not have any suspects and have not made any arrests," Sgt. Wardlow said.

Police say they have not been called to the home before Saturday, but friends told News9 Stanley had a date the night before she died with someone she met online.

Now, family, friends, and co-workers like Patricia Mason are hoping someone will help solve the murder of a person who during her life helped so many others.

"She was a wonderful person, she was a great friend to everyone, just a wonderful nurse and would do anything for anybody," Mason said.

Investigators are not revealing what trauma they found on Stanley's body and say they will wait on the Medical Examiner to determine how she died. In the meantime, Police are asking for your help. If you have any information about this case, call the OKC Homicide Tipline at (405)-297-1200.
