With a stunning 7-1 run to open the season, the Drover men's basketball team finds itself nationally ranked for the first time in years.

The Drovers jumped from unranked in the preseason to their current spot at 14 in the latest NAIA poll, which was released Tuesday evening.

It is the first time the program has appeared on the rankings since finishing the 2002-03 season at No. 16.

USAO, which faced tough NCAA Division II competition so far this season, have only lost one game — an overtime loss to now-No. 11 Texas Wesleyan.

The Sooner Athletic Conference has five institutions on the NAIA Top 25 Poll, with Oklahoma Baptist taking the top spot and Rogers State tying for fourth. Oklahoma City sits at 22 and John Brown finishes up the poll at 25.

Nine of the schools in the poll, including USAO and OCU, were not ranked in the preseason.

The Drovers will break for the winter holiday and will return to action in January for conference play. They take on No. 4 Rogers State in the conference opener at home on Jan. 3. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Head Coach Brisco McPherson will be looking for his 300th career win in that game. It will be "Crush the Cap Nap" night and fans are encouraged to wear their pajamas to the game.
