A thief broke into the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Thursday morning and stole more than $3,000 in cash and other items. Friday, church leaders put out a picture of the suspect from their security camera system.

The church pastor said the suspect walked right up to the front door of the attached school and broke in, but the thief may not have known that a security camera caught him in the act.

The crook broke into several offices and stole several items.

"I noticed right away my cash bag was gone," said Debbie Swanson, Director of the Holy Trinity Christian School. "I usually have a petty cash bag. And then I looked down and my laptop underneath my desk was gone."

Also stolen: six cameras, money from the soda machine, a guitar, banjo and other items that add up to more than $3,000.

"When he came in he looked like he immediately knew where he was going to go. He didn't hesitate," explained Swanson. "He had a flashlight, walking around with a flashlight and it was just very eerie feeling and then to know he was in my office going through my drawers looking for money."

The suspect also stole some things without much value, including coffee and candy. Swanson laughed about him taking only the chocolate candies and leaving the rest in place. All jokes aside, church leaders said they were frustrated by the break-in.

"You feel violated whenever this takes place at your own church or as you would at your home as far as that goes," Rev. Barrie Henke said.

Pastor Henke says a problem with the door latching probably allowed the crook into the building. Anyone who recognized the suspect should contact police.
