The crash sent three students from North Highland Elementary and their bus driver to the hospital. Seven students were on board at the time.

While police search for the driver who left the scene, others are still amazed by what happened.

Frightening moments unfolded on board this Oklahoma City Public Schools bus on its way to school

"It's just the worst nightmare for a school district," OKCPS Superintendent Karl Springer said.

The bus was heading north on Classen just after 7:30 a.m., when police say the driver of this white car crashed into it, toppling the bus on its side.

Betty Wooden's daughter normally rides that bus, but she took her to school Tuesday morning.

"So I was really freaked out. I'm paranoid about her riding the bus anyways," Wooden said.

We're told the driver of the other car was speeding and took off after the crash.

"In a neighborhood you have set speed limits and obviously this person was in a hurry and didn't stick around. They ran from the scene," OKCPS spokesperson Kathleen Kennedy said.

The school district says the bus driver didn't hesitate to help the kids get out safely.

"We really credit him to looking after the students and making sure they were taken care of first," Kennedy said.

Paramedics took three students and the bus driver to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"It's very important for drivers to watch for children on the bus and slow down," Wooden said.

Neighbors are relieve things didn't end up worse after a crash that left a school district shaken.

"It's like your own child. You would be concerned with their safety, making sure they're okay, and that's how we react to any situation, to any bus accident," Kennedy said.

Today's crash was the 11th accident involving an Oklahoma City Public Schools bus so far this year.

The district had a total of 22 crashes last year.

Police don't have a good description of the driver. Witnesses report it was a woman carrying a backpack.

If you have information, call Oklahoma City Police.
