A suspected car thief is on the run Tuesday morning following a high-speed police chase in Norman.

Around 4 a.m., an officer tried to pull over a speeding Chevrolet pickup truck on Highway 9 near Marshall Avenue. The driver refused to stop and drove into a residential area.

Police say the suspect eventually jumped out of his car after turning onto Wheatland Drive, a dead-end street. The man ran into a nearby wooded area.

Norman Police began a ground search using both officers and K-9 units. They also requested help from the Oklahoma City Police Department's helicopter.

Officers did not find the suspect. Police believe he's still in the area and plan to conduct extra patrols in the neighborhood throughout the day. They have not released a detailed description of the suspect.

Police also determined the pickup truck was stolen out of Del City.
