A man from Lake Charles, Louisiana, was arrested in Cushing for making a false report to police about an armed robbery early Sunday morning.

According to Cushing police, officers responded to the report of an armed robbery just after 5:30 a.m. Sunday, at the Wilshire Motel, located at 1720 E. Main Street.

The man who made up the report, 25-year-old Michael C. Barlow, told police he was getting ready for work with his room door open, when a man came to the room and demanded his wallet at gunpoint. Barlow said the man then ran away from the scene on foot.

Officers searched the area for the "suspect," who is described as a white man with scruffy facial hair wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, and armed with a revolver. However, they did not find that man.

Police say due to the nature of the report and inconsistencies in Barlow's initial statement, a detective was called in to re-interview Barlow. Barlow later admitted to the detective that he made the entire report up.

Barlow admitted to police that he lost his wallet, which contained a work datacard belonging to his employer and was worried he would be fired.

Barlow was then arrested on a complaint of filing a false police report. He will be held in the Cushing jail while awaiting transport to the Payne County jail.
