Muskogee police say an elderly disabled veteran defended his home by shooting an intruder Saturday night. The suspect survived the shooting and will be charged with first degree burglary, according to Officer Pedro Zardeneta of the Muskogee Police Department.

Police say the burglary took place at 10:44 p.m. in the 600 block of Kankakee.

"Investigators processed the scene, and it is not believed that the homeowner did anything criminal," Zardeneta said in a news release.

Police found the wounded suspect shortly after arriving at the home, and he was taken to a local hospital.

The suspect's name was not released.
