A semi-truck slammed into a bridge on Turner Turnpike Friday afternoon, and part of it fell on a passing car.

Emergency crews responded to the crash at around 1 p.m. Friday. It happened in the eastbound lanes of Turner Turnpike at Hogback Road.

Part of the semi fell on top of a passing SUV. One person received minor injuries. That person's identity is unknown at this time.

The eastbound lanes of Turner Turnpike from Interstate 35 to mile marker 147 were shut down for about 30 minutes.

Authorities say this is the third semi to crash into the bridge in about a month.

Jack Damrill of the Turnpike Authority says there is nothing wrong with that bridge. He says the driver of the semi-truck that hit the bridge on Friday, as well as the other two drivers who struck the bridge with big rigs in the past month, all were not properly permitted to be driving the turnpike.

Damrill says the bridge is 14 feet, three inches tall. Authorities inspect the bridge and all bridges on a routine basis.

However, Damrill says this bridge is the shortest bridge along the Turner Turnpike.

Turnpike authorities say they will start closing the bridge at midnight Sunday night.
