A woman convicted of manslaughter for causing a crash that killed a Tulsa priest and a seminary student was sentenced to over 22 years in prison, eight years suspended, Monday.
Keianne Shelton received 15 years for killing Father Jorge Gomez and seven years for the death of seminary student Stanley Kariuki, when she ran a red light in north Tulsa in August 2011.
During her trial, Shelton told the jury that she was afraid and driving quickly away after shots rang out at a convenience store. She also admitted that she had been drinking before getting behind the wheel.
Test showed that Shelton's blood alcohol level was nearly two times the legal limit at the time of the crash.
