Yukon police say a bizarre set of events led up to a man's death on I-40 early Friday morning.

The man was hit and killed by a car near Garth Brooks Boulevard around 4:40 a.m. OHP Troopers say the pedestrian may have been high on drugs, but Yukon police say it appeared the man had mental issues and officers had several run-ins with him prior to the fatal accident.

Yukon Police Chief John Corn says his officers first made contact with the man Thursday evening after he barricaded himself and his children's mother inside the woman's apartment. Chief Corn says prior to his officers arriving at the apartment, the man called 9-1-1 to report himself as a suspect in a burglary. Chief Corn says the burglary was a made up story and the man told police he was being "chased by other people" and needed to hide from them.

At some point during the incident at the woman's apartment, police had to tazer the man. Officers asked for an ambulance to take him to the Integris Canadian Valley Hospital in Yukon to be evaluated.

Chief Corn says shortly before 4:00 a.m. his officers were called to the hospital after the staff discharged him, but he refused to leave the property. Police say they offered the man a ride, but he refused and eventually left the hospital's property.

A short time later police were called to a nearby fitness center where witnesses say the man was banging on windows and asking customers for a ride.

Again, police say they offered the man a ride but he refused and left the fitness center property.

It was close to 4:40 a.m. when Chief Corn says they were notified that the man had been hit and killed on the interstate. At this time his identity has not been released by investigators. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the fatality.

The driver of the car that struck the man was injured and taken to an Oklahoma City hospital to be treated for unknown injuries.
