SHAWNEE, Okla. -- A Shawnee 6th grader is in the hospital after a hit-and-run in a Shawnee neighborhood on Wednesday.

Reagan Permetter, 11, has a long list of injuries, including a fractured skull and a broken leg.

Reagan is in fair condition right now, but she still isn't able to communicate. Her family tells she can't even open her eyes because her face is so swollen. She was badly hurt Wednesday night when she was hit by a car near her Shawnee home.

Around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Reagan's 12-year-old brother, Taylor, was standing on their porch, and saw the unthinkable happen; his sister Reagan hit by a car.

Renae Taber is a close family friend.

"They just hit her. They hit her and left," Taber said.

Taber has been waiting with Reagan's family in the hospital. They're most concerned with Reagan's recovery, but they're also upset that someone not only hit Reagan, but didn't even stop to help.

"Had there not been witnesses, Reagan may not be here going through what she's going through," Taber said.

Reagan's been at OU Children's Hospital since Wednesday night with broken bones in her face and several other injuries.

"She's got bruised lungs, a lacerated spleen, [and] multiple soft tissues," Taber said.

She had surgery Thursday for her broken leg, an injury that's especially tough for Reagan, an avid soccer player.

"She is amazing, she is funny, outgoing," Taber says, "she plays soccer, she's athletic, [has] lots of friends, just a really joyful child to be around."

Reagan's family is thankful for the support they've gotten so far.

"Please just keep praying, your prayers are helping," Taber says, "pray for Reagan to recover to speedily recover."

Reagan is expected to be in the hospital for weeks. News 9 is told her brother Taylor did go back to school on Friday.

Shawnee Police are still investigating the hit-and-run. At this point, News 9 is told the driver hasn't been charged.

Friends of Reagan's family have set up an account at BancFirst to help with medical bills. Donations can be made at any BancFirst in the state under Permetter's name.
