With the start of the 2012 season just weeks away, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops released his captains for the season.

Stoops named five captains in all on Monday: senior quarterback Landry Jones, junior offensive lineman Gabe Ikard, senior defensive end David King, senior punter Tress Way and junior fullback/special teams standout Trey Millard.

Both Jones and Way served as captains for the Sooners in 2011.

Jones, who has started 37 games, is on several preseason national awards watch lists and finished 2011 as a Manning Award semifinalist. The Artesia, N.M., native is already the school's all-time leading passer with 12,379 yards.

Ikard is also on numerous preseason watch lists. The 6-foot-3, 288-pound lineman was an All-Big 12 first team selection last season and has 25 career starts.

King has just eight starts for the Sooners through his first three seasons but has been a valuable contributor, including 31 tackles and two sacks in 2011. The senior from Houston has appeared in 30 games for OU.

Millard is one of the most versatile Sooners, playing key roles as OU's fullback and as a reliable special teams performer. Millard has started five games for the Sooners including three last year. He rushed for 169 yards on 7.0 yards per carry in 2011 and was named first-team All-Big 12 at fullback.

Lastly, senior punter Tress Way was named a captain for the second-consecutive season. Way has started all 40 games of his Oklahoma career and was named honorable mention all-conference a season ago. He owns an OU school record with 58 punts of more than 50 yards and tied an Insight Bowl record with a 67-yard punt against Iowa.
