Molotov Cocktail Sparks Fire At Northwest OKC Home

Investigators say a fire early Wednesday morning at a home near N.W. 26th Street and Portland Avenue was no accident.

Firefighters arrived at the house around 12:30 a.m. and found flames shooting from the front of the structure. They extinguished the fire in about 10 minutes. The two people inside the house at the time escaped unharmed.

The residents told firefighters someone threw a Molotov cocktail through their window, and that's what started the fire. Police are now investigating.

"The initial report we got was the occupants stated that a Molotov cocktail had been tossed through their window," said Battalion Chief Mike Kelley with the Oklahoma City Fire Department. "What we had when we arrived on the scene is consistent with that. [The police department] has begun an investigation and the fire investigators are on the scene now doing a follow up investigation."

Police say the person who set the fire also damaged the residents' pickup trucks. Someone smashed in the windshields of two vehicles. The victims say they think they know who may have started the fire and vandalized the trucks. Police are investigating that person.
