Fire Crews Contain Wildfire Near Oak Grove

Firefighters have contained a wildfire that started near Oak Grove on Saturday.

Firefighters have contained a wildfire that started near Oak Grove on Saturday.

The Cushing Fire Department originally responded to a grass fire off of Schlegal Road, just north of State highway 33 in Payne County. Firefighters were able to get that fire under control.

At the same time, the Drumright Fire Department was responding to a fire in the neighborhood of Oak Grove, about a quarter mile south of State Highway 33.

Cushing firefighters then assisted Drumright firefighters to battle this blaze, which had started to spread toward to the city of Drumright.

Authorities shut down State highway 33, and evacuated the area of Oak Grove.

As of Sunday morning, crews have contained the fire near Oak Grove, and residents are allowed to go back in the area.

Officials say several structures were damaged, but they are not sure how many at this time. However, officials warn residents that there are downed power lines all over the area.

Residents are also advised to use as little water as possible due to no electricity at the water plant.
