Chris Volstad limited the Oklahoma City RedHawks to just four hits over eight shutout innings, as the Iowa Cubs avoided a sweep, 5-0 Friday night.

Volstad struck out five and walked three batters on 102 pitches, gaining his third win of the season.

Jarred Cosart dropped to 0-2 this season with the loss for the RedHawks.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Cubs lit up the scoreboard for three runs. Adrian Cardenas started the inning with a ground-rule double to right-center field. After Josh Vitters walked, Brett Jackson singled to drive in Cardenas, and advance Vitters to second. Dave Sappelt then followed Jackson with a triple to center that scored Jackson and Vitters.

The Cubs scored a run in the fifth and eighth innings, but the RedHawks were never able to muster a rally to cut into the Cubs' lead.

The RedHawks begin a pivotal four-game series with Omaha Saturday at home in Oklahoma City. Omaha is leading the American Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League, while the RedHawks are tied for first in the American Southern Division.

First pitch on Saturday is set for 7:05 p.m.
