One person in Oklahoma City has died because of the heat. Fifty-six year old Patrick Beery's roommates found him dead inside his sweltering home that has no air-conditioning.

Those close to Beery says he was a cancer survivor and a Navy veteran. Every Sunday for the past 13 years he would fix breakfast for the community at a nearby church. But around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night, his roommate found him in his home. It appears he died because of the heat.

EMSA says they responded to six calls Wednesday, July 18, of people succumbing to the intense heat and are warning everyone it's just going to get worse.

"You really need to listen to your body, if you're getting hot and tired you need to get out of the elements and find shade in a breeze if you can and of course air conditioning is the best," advises Jon Graham with EMSA.

It's advice Beery's neighbors will be paying closer attention too especially since they don't have air conditioning either.

"I just don't like that little man dying because of the heat," said Cherrie Fletcher.

Douglas Ellis carries a list of cool zones with him wherever he goes.

"So I can stop at someplace and get air conditioning," he says.

Beery's roommates say they tried to get Beery to someplace cooler too. But he wouldn't listen.
