After nine consecutive games against the same opponent, it was the Oklahoma City RedHawks who got the last laugh.

The RedHawks pounded the New Orleans Zephyrs 12-3 on Sunday evening at Bricktown Ballpark.

The Zephyrs struck first on a two-run homer by second baseman Brian Peterson in the opening inning but didn't manage to hold on for very long.

In the bottom of the second, OKC shortstop Angel Sanchez hit an RBI line-drive single to score Mike Hessman for the first of three RedHawk runs in the inning. With bases loaded, Jair Fernandez was hit by a pitch to score Brett Wallace, reloading the bases. The very next batter, Jimmy Paredes, was walked to score J.B. Shuck.

The RedHawks tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning when Mike Hessman hit a sacrifice fly to score Brandon Barnes. Shuck then doubled on a line drive for an RBI to make the score 5-2.

Oklahoma City then removed all doubt by pouring in seven total runs in the seventh and eighth innings to seal the deal and end a nine-game series against New Orleans that bookended the All-Star break.

The RedHawks scored 12 runs on 12 hits while New Orleans managed three runs on just five hits.

OKC left hander Brett Oberholtzer earned the victory with six innings of work, giving up two runs and two hits with three strikeouts.

Oklahoma City starts an eight-game road trip on Monday for the first of four games against Omaha at 7:05 p.m.
