A trio of Oklahoma Sooners and one member of the Oklahoma State Cowboys were named to the Bronko Nagurski Award watch list, presented annually by the Charlotte Touchdown Club to the best defensive player in college football.
Demontre Hurst, Tony Jefferson and Tom Wort were named to the list from OU, while Brodrick Brown made the list from OSU.
Hurst was a second-team All-Big 12 selection last season. For the year, he totaled 55 tackles to go along with a team-leading 11 pass breakups and two fumble recoveries.
Jefferson was the team's third-leading tackler in 2011 with 74 tackles, and also added 4.5 sacks, fourth on the team. He led the Sooner defense with four interceptions and was named an honorable mention All-Big 12.
Wort totaled 71 tackles in 2011, including 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Wort also had two interceptions and was another honorable mention on the All-Big 12 team.
For Oklahoma State in 2011, Brown was a first-team All-Big 12 defensive back and ranked fifth on the Cowboys with 68 tackles. He tied for the team lead with five interceptions, and led the team with 15 pass breakups.
Hurst, Jefferson and Brown were also named to the Bednarik Award Watch List, also given to the nation's best defensive player.
