The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office is trying to identify the person who shot at a deputy Wednesday night.

The deputy was patrolling the area near N.E. 7th Street and Bryant Avenue on July 4 just before 8 p.m. when someone shot at him. The deputy was not hurt.

Detectives are hoping someone may have seen or heard something around that time. They said witnesses may have mistaken the gunfire for fireworks.

Detectives are also searching for a woman who stopped to check on the deputy after the shooting incident. They would like to speak to the concerned citizen about what she may have seen and heard.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office at (405) 701-8888; or the Tip Line at (405) 701-8870; or Crime Stoppers at (405) 701-8872.
