The Norman Police Department is now offering a free service that will inform people of emergencies, advisories and community events.

The service will send out text messages or emails through a service created by Nixle, LLC. Nixle has partnered with the International Justice and Public Safety Network (Nlets). The partnership allows Norman police to send instant alerts and advisories free of charge.

People interested in the alert service can register by texting your zip code to the number 888777. Residents call also register by going to www.Nixle.com.
