Oklahoma City extended its win streak to six games Sunday, knocking off the Iowa Cubs 6-5, thanks in large part to the bat of Matt Hessman.

The veteran first baseman belted three solo home runs on the evening, giving him 13 on the season, accounting for half of Oklahoma City's scoring.

The RedHawks (34-23) took the lead early, stringing together three consecutive singles in the bottom of the first, capped off by Brad Snyder sending one to left field to bring Scott Moore home to take a 1-0 advantage.

However, Iowa (25-31) immediately responded with back-to-back doubles from Ty Wright and Bryan Esposito to tie the game 1-1.

Oklahoma City kept its offense rolling in the bottom half of the inning and retook the lead on a bases-loaded force out at second allowed Angel Sanchez to score. The RedHawks continued their barrage in the bottom of the third. After a leadoff home run from Hessman, Sanchez grounded out, allowing Brandon Barnes to score, giving OKC a 4-1 advantage.

A fielding error in the top of the fourth allowed Iowa to score two and cut the lead to just one run, however Hessman hit his second solo shot in the bottom of the fifth to give Oklahoma City a 5-3 lead.

Iowa tied the game in the top of the seventh, thanks to a Diory Hernandez one-out double and a Juan Apodaca line drive single. But once again Hessman homered, a two-out bomb to left field, which would prove to be the winning run.

The home run came off of the bat of Jeff Believeau (1-3), who picked up a loss for allowing that one hit in his one inning of service. Enerio Del Rosario (1-1) earned a win for his work, giving up just one hit in one inning pitched.

Oklahoma City will try to continue its streak at 7:05 p.m. Monday, in the third game of their four-game series against the Cubs.
