Oklahoma County prosecutors have charged a man with the first-degree murder of his alleged drug dealer.

Police say 27-year-old Ryan Cody Gothard killed 50-year-old Janica Shoals on May 17. Her body was found the next morning inside a unit at the Ridgeview Apartment complex in northwest Oklahoma City. According to court documents, she'd been shot in the head and shoulder.

Investigators say Shoals was a drug user who also sold prescription medications. During their investigation, police discovered that on the day she died, Shoals had called someone in her cell phone listed only as "Whiteboy," and that person had called her back. Police later traced that number to Gothard.

According to court documents, two witnesses say Gothard walked into the breezeway in front of Shoals' apartment between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The men later heard three gunshots.

The witnesses said a man they identified as Gothard then walked back out and asked the men of they'd heard the gunshots. When the men said yes, police say Gothard told the witnesses he heard them as well and was going to call 911.

Police say no 911 call was made to report a shooting during that time period.

The witnesses told police they later saw Gothard get into his car and drive away. The men wrote down his license plate number.

Based on that information, police arrested Gothard for Shoals' murder.
