As the playoff spotlight continues to shine on the Thunder, not only are Oklahomans cheering, but so are fans nationwide. And a letter from the Big Apple went a long way for one little Thunder fan.
When given a journal in his first grade reading class, the young student in Brooklyn, New York would write only one thing, Oklahoma City Thunder. What he didn't realize, his tutor, an Oklahoma native, would read that journal entry and help deliver the surprise of a lifetime.
The tutor, Caitlin Clements, was born and raised in Oklahoma City. But as a grad student at NYU, she befriended Antoine Fonville while volunteering her time with the program America Reads.
When Clements recognized Antoine's affection for the OKC thunder, she explained the Thunder is in her hometown and encouraged him to write a letter in hopes it would encourage the first grader to continue to read and write.
Antoine waited a month for a reply. And as it turns out, it was worth the wait. The Thunder not only replied to the letter from New York, but also sent lots of Thunder gear to his classroom.
