Neighbors Report More Crimes On Robinson Avenue In SW OKC
OKLAHOMA CITY - In a neighborhood where children play, neighbors say prostitutes work.
"They pass right in front of the house and they get picked up right in front of the kids," Adela Martinez said.
Martinez moved into the Capitol Hill neighborhood near SW 43rd and Robinson in Oklahoma City nearly 17 years ago. In recent months, Martinez says the violence associated with prostitution is only getting worse.
'I don't think it's good for the kids looking at them half naked and stuff and they are right out there riding bikes."
Martinez's frustration turned to fear after two stabbings happened just down the street from where she stays with her granddaughter.
On April 24, police found Jermal Turner, a known pimp referred to as Stacks, stabbed to death. Witnesses say a prostituted woman stabbed Turner. Police have not made any arrests.
Three weeks later, on May 12, another man named Adrian Easlick was also stabbed at the same location. Again, witnesses say the crime happened at the hand of a prostitute.
Despite witness accounts, police say Easlick did not report the incident was in connection to prostitution.
Brian Bates of JohnTV.com is a video activist working to stop prostitution on Robinson. Bates explained what witnesses say happened.
"When he had her down and was starting to assault her she produced a knife and stabbed him, Easlick is also a known pimp who has faced charges for rape, drug dealing, and currently pandering for allegedly pimping women on South Robinson," Bates said.
Bates is noticing the crime increasing.
"These crimes are happening at any time of day and regardless of the number of witnesses that may be in the area that really should be concerning to anybody that means these people will lash out violently against anyone at any time."
Unfortunately, Martinez is worried it could be her, her grandbaby, or a neighbor.
"It's becoming a big problem and I think something needs to be done," Martinez said.
