Two people are expected to recover after escaping a fire that destroyed a home in far southeast Oklahoma County.
The fire started around 3 a.m. Thursday near S.E. 149th Street and Hiawasee. Flames quickly engulfed the house but the two people inside -- a man and a woman -- managed to escape. They were rushed to the hospital suffering from burns on their hands and smoke inhalation, but they're expected to recover.
Firefighters faced several challenges while battling the flames. They had to drive down a narrow, dirt road, and the nearest fire hydrant was five miles away. Fire crews had to truck water to the house. In the end, firefighters could not save the house. They say the home collapsed onto itself and is a complete loss.
It's not known yet what started the fire. Arson investigators are trying to determine the cause.
