As many as 500 motorcycle enthusiasts gathered Saturday to raise money for two of their peers who have been in motorcycle accidents in the past several months.

May is Motorcycle Awareness Month in Oklahoma. And with the weather warming up, cars are going to be sharing the open road with more bikes.

The Alley Club was the last of four destinations today for members of the Patriot Guard and Oklahoma's Downed Bikers Association.  Nine days ago, a serious accident during a funeral procession in Oklahoma City seriously injured a long-time member of the Patriot Guard.  And even though he just got out of the hospital, he can't wait to get back on his bike.

"It's just part of riding a motorcycle," said Patriot Guard ruder, Elmer Finch.

Finch spent multiple tours in Vietnam flying helicopters in combat. So excuse him if he won't let an accident and a broken hip get him down.

"I don't care how safe you are, you do not control the environment around you 100 percent. So it's ride at your own risk. No regrets," said Finch.

Finch was riding at the head of a Patriot Guard funeral procession April 26th, when several bikes got discombobulated on 36th street.

"Hit from behind and was thrown from my bike and I landed real hard on my hip."

Finch was part of a large Patriot Guard delegation, Saturday, who attended an Oklahoma Downed Bikers Association rally that began at Harley Davidson World off west Reno. Both groups were raising money for two of their brethren who are still recovering from accidents earlier in the year.

Buddy Myers is Patriot Guard Ride Captain for most of the State of Oklahoma.

"Hopefully the general public will understand that motorcyclists are out there. We're gonna share the road. We understand the dangers," said Myers.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports there was a fatal motorcycle accident just two days ago in Adair County.  A 24-year-old man died of massive head injuries after OHP says he struck a pickup truck.  He was wearing a helmet.
