Crews begin Tuesday night widening Kilpatrick Turnpike in both directions; a project that will last a full year.

Crews will begin setting up concrete barriers at 8 p.m. May 1. The plan is to add a third lane to both the eastbound and westbound lanes. According to the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, crews will be working mainly at night and the project should not affect daytime traffic. There may be, however, occasional lane closures.

Speed in the construction zones will also be reduced to 55 mph.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority says for the entire length of the project, the construction area will be a "No Phone Zone." They are asking drivers not to use their cell phones while driving through the area so they can focus their full attention on the road. Additional Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers will be patrolling the construction zone during the project to make sure drivers are obeying the rules of the road.

The widening project is expected to be complete by May 12, 2013.
