A woman shot by two Tulsa Police officers early Friday morning, is out of surgery and in intensive care.

Police got a call around 1:30 a.m. about a woman with a gun at the Las Americas parking lot near Admiral and Lewis.

When they arrived, they say a car quickly pulled into a parking spot and killed the lights. The officers say they gave commands in both English and Spanish until the driver of the car got out and was handcuffed.

They say the passenger got out but she refused to show her hands or follow commands and nodded her head yes when asked if she had a gun.

Tulsa Police say the officers repeatedly told her in both languages not to touch it, but she put her hands in her waistband.

A male officer, who is a combat veteran, then shot the woman twice.

They say she staggered back, but then went into the car and started digging around. Police say that's when a female officer shot the woman two more times.

"The investigation is ongoing. We do have witnesses regarding the initial call that they were in fear for their life, so they gave us a call and we responded," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Brian Hill.

Tulsa Police say the woman did not have a gun on her.

The car was impounded and homicide detectives got a warrant to search it. Both police officers are veterans and are on routine leave until both the criminal and internal investigations are complete.
